Budding Fig Tree

Matthew 24:32-35
“Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches become tender and it produces leaves, you know that summer is near. In the same way, when you see all these things, you will know that he is near, right at the door. Truly I tell you, this generation will not disappear until these things happen. Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.”
Mark 13:28-32
“Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches become tender and it produces leaves, you know that summer is near. In the same way, when you see these things taking place, you will know that he is near, right at the door. Truly I tell you, this generation will not disappear until all these things take place. Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.” “No one knows when that day or hour will come-not the angels in heaven, not the Son, but only the Father.
Luke 21:29-33
Then he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees. As soon as they produce leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is already near. In the same way, when you see these things taking place, you will know that the kingdom of God is near. “Truly I tell you, this generation will not disappear until all these things take place. Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.”
    • Jesus was sharing a important key prophetic understanding, the parable of the fig tree. And it has inflamed the hearts of a whole generation. You see Jesus said that this generation, would be the “Final Generation.” That “This generation”, would not or “shall not pass” away (die off, be Raptured or Caught Up) until “all These Things be fulfilled”.
    • The generation that saw the budding of the fig tree. The Generation that saw the fig tree putting forth it’s leaves its branch tender, Jesus said when you see a tree come back to life, as all the trees do out of the dead of winter, it begins to sprout and become green and burst forth it seemed to be dead but it returns to life.
    • Budding represents Israel becoming an independent nation again, then consistently speaking, “all the trees” must represent all of the other nations of the world, and when all the trees grow and bud, it represents all nations becoming independent nations again. The problem is that the application of the parable by the pre-trib dispensationalists completely falls apart when Luke 21’s version is taken into account, because not every nation was renewed in 1948 (nor in 1967).
  • A budding tree means that summer is near. Likewise, fulfillment of Christ’s prophecies (from this Olivet Discourse) means that the coming of the Son of Man, the “end of the age” and the Kingdom of God are near.
